Sadly, even though Bethesda and ID make some really awesome games together they're just as human as the rest of us. That means there's bound to be some problems along the way and one of them affected hundreds of thousands of players with a lot of complaints rolling in everywhere on the internet. I was one of them..
I searched high and low looking for a solution only to be unsuccessful. What did I try?
And none of the above worked as the game just sat there....
I would press Play in the Bethesda.NET Launcher for Doom Eternal and it would start Running almost like the game was going to work but then it would flat out quit then stop. I could hear my computer trying to run it and yet nothing.
So I decided to pull a Ghost Recon for myself and do some investigating on the problem. I tried tweaking a few other things but no luck there yet. All signs were pointing to either a gaming pc issue leading to believe that my computer just couldn't run it. This didn't make sense, I was convinced this was a technical issue with the game and it turned out that was the case after poking at it once last time I found was a simple solution and this may help others experiencing the same game launch issue.
STEP 1:
Go to C:\Bethesda.net Launcher\games\Doom Eternal (or wherever you have the game installed)
STEP 2:
Double-Click on the DoomEternalx64vk.exe to start the game manually. You'll probably end up with an error on your screen that says something along the lines of " xinput1_3.dll " or some other sort of Direct X Error.
If that is the case then you have the same issue as me. What happened is the Vulkan Libraries didn't fully install properly due to a glitch in the game files and the verify will miss because the Vulkan API still uses some of the Direct X Files to function with performance improvements. This also proves it's a Windows and Game Issue and not your computer hardware itself.
STEP 3:
Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8109 and download the Direct-X End-User Runtimes (June 2010). This is the microsoft link to it so it's 100% safe.
STEP 4:
Extract the Direct X Files to a folder somewhere on your computer. I used a folder on my desktop I created so I could easily delete it afterwards.
STEP 5:
Open the Direct X Folder that you extracted to and double-click on DXInstaller and go through the installation process. It should update your computer with some Direct X Files that were missing that the Doom Eternal Game requires and should have installed but didn't. You may delete that folder afterwards if you wish.
STEP 6:
Now try pressing Play on the Doom Eternal Game in the Bethesda.NET Launcher and you're now ready to go kick some demon ass!
The above might not work for everyone depending on your computer, setup, hardware, and the platform doom eternal is installed but in this case it helped resolve it for me so that was the reason I made this blog about fixing it to try to help others who might be experiencing the same issue with the same circumstances that I had and best of luck! Hope it helps to get the game working!
